Basics

Use the SELECT MODE to select an area of the screen image which you intend to duplicate or move. The selected area can then be copied into the SELECT BOX using the COPY, CUT or CROP buttons.

Use the COPY button to duplicate the selected area. To move the selected area, use the CUT button. The CROP button lets you copy the selected area into the SELECT BOX and then clear the image from which it was taken. See below for examples of these operations.

The copied image in the SELECT BOX may then be re-sized, rotated and/or re-positioned before it is pasted back to the screen image.

Tap the SELECT MODE button (1) on the MAIN TOOLBAR.

The SELECT TOOLBAR (2) appears, as well as the SELECT BOX (3). The SELECT BOX is used to select an area of the screen image to either copy it or move it elsewhere.

You can drag the SELECT BOX itself to move it; or drag one of the handles (see next section below on HANDLES) to move or adjust its size.

Additionally, when you move, re-size or rotate the SELECT BOX, you can use the NUDGE controls in (4) to make small single pixel adjustments.

After positioning the SELECT BOX, use the buttons in (5) to either CROP, COPY,or CUT the area under the SELECT BOX. You can also fill the SELECT BOX with an image from the CLIPBOARD, if it exists.

The contents of the SELECT BOX can then be PASTED elsewhere on the screen.

The EXPORT button (6) lets you export the contents in the SELECT BOX. For example, you can print the SELECT BOX, email or upload it to Facebook.

You can also save the contents of the SELECT BOX for re-use as an ICON later, or save it back to the PHOTO ALBUM.

EXPORT also allows you to open the contents of the SELECT BOX as a jpg, png or pdf file in another app on your iPad. The target app has to support the Apple Document Interaction (ie the "Open in ...") facility.

The CLIPBOARD is also supported and you can export the image in the SELECT BOX to the CLIPBOARD and paste it in another app.

Note that the EXPORT BUTTON (6) on the SELECT MODE toolbar operates on the image in the SELECT BOX. If you wish to export the entire sreen image instead, use the EXPORT BUTTON on the MAIN TOOLBAR.

Tap the CLEAR BUTTON (7) tO clear the contents of the SELECT BOX. Note that after pasting, the image in the SELECT BOX is not cleared automatically, as you may wish to reuse the image.

As always, you can touch or drag the TABS (8) to slide the TOOLBARS on and off the screen.

The SELECT BOX (1) (and its image content, if any) may be moved by dragging the BOX itself, or the DOT HANDLES (2).

To re-size the SELECT BOX, drag the ARROWHEAD HANDLES (3).

If the SELECT BOX has content (eg. you have copied an area of the screen), the SELECT BOX will have a pink tint (1).

Further, additional spin handles (2) to ROTATE the image in the SELECT BOX are displayed.

Note the NUDGE controls to decrease (3) or increase (4) the position or size of the SELECT BOX with small (single pixel) adjustments. The NUDGE action is indicated by the NUDGE action button (5) and the current position or size values are displayed in (6). You can cycle through the different NUDGE actions by tapping (5) or tapping one of the handles.

Nudge Actions

Height and width nudge.

If you touch or drag the SELECT BOX the NUDGE action in play is indicated by the image on the NUDGE ACTION button (3). In this case, the action is a proportional change in width and height when the DECREASE button (1) or INCREASE button (2) is pressed.

As you tap the INCREASE or DECREASE button, the new width and height is displayed in (4)

Move right nudge.

If you touch or drag the RIGHT DOT handle, the NUDGE action would be a MOVE RIGHT ation as shown in (1). The center position of the SELECT BOX is indicated in (2).

As you tap the INCREASE or DECREASE button, the new position of the center of the SELECT BOX is updated in (2).

Stretch down nudge.

If you touch or drag the DOWN ARROWHEAD handle, the NUDGE action would be a STRETCH DOWN action as shown in (1). The center position of the bottom edge of the SELECT BOX is indicated in (2).

As you tap the INCREASE or DECREASE button, the new position of the bottom edge of the SELECT BOX is updated in (2).

Rotate nudge.

If you touch or drag one of the SPIN handles, the NUDGE action would be a ROTATION as shown in (1). The degree of rotation is displayed in (2).

As you tap the INCREASE or DECREASE button, the rotation angle is updated in (2).

There are a number of other NUDGE actions, depending on which handle was last used or touched. The image on the NUDGE button (1) indicates the NUDGE action when the INCREASE and DECREASE buttons are pressed. You can change the NUDGE action by touching the appropriate HANDLE (DOT, ARROWHEAD OR ROTATE) or tap the NUDGE button itself to cycle through the variations.

Examples

a. Crop, Copy, Cut and Paste

Start with an image on the screen (1).

The SELECT MODE lets you select an area of the image and copy or move that area into the SELECT BOX.

COPY

Tap the SELECT button (1) on the MAIN TOOLBAR.

Drag and resize the SELECT BOX (2) over the area to be copied and tap the COPY button (3).

A copy of the selected area is placed in the SELECT BOX (1). Drag the SELECT BOX to another location and tap the PASTE button (2).

The image in the SELECT BOX will be pasted on to the screen image.

Note that SELECT BOX is not cleared automatically, as you may wish to re-use the copy image.

Tap the CLEAR button (3) to clear the image in the SELECT BOX.

The copy in the SELECT BOX may be rotated using the SPIN HANDLES (1).

Remember to tap the PASTE button (2) to paste the contents of the SELECT BOX back to the screen.

CUT

If you had selected the CUT button (1) instead of COPY, the original selected area in the screen image is cleared (2).

Use CUT to "move" areas of the screen, rather than copy.

Use CUT also to clear large areas of the screen (Select the area, tap CUT and then CLEAR), instead of using the erase tool (in DRAW MODE).

CROP

If you had selected the CROP button (1) after selecting an area, a pop up appears (2) where you can choose to "CROP AND CLEAR", or "CROP AND RESTORE".

If you select the "CROP AND CLEAR" option, the screen will be cleared and the selection placed in the SELECT BOX (1) which you can then re-size, rotate and/or re-locate before pasting.

REMEMBER TO PASTE the cropped selection back to the screen.

"CROP AND RESTORE" lets you paste in an image temporarily so that you can select and copy an area from that image, and subsequently remove it to restore the screen image.

The "CROP AND RESTORE" option is useful if you are building up a screen image by cropping and pasting from a number of photos, say to build up a collage (see example below).

b. Importing and Cropping Photos to create a collage

Tap the IMAGES button (1) on the main toolbar.

A popover appears and you can choose to import an existing photo from the iPad Photo Album (2) or take a new picture (3) with the built-in iPad camera (Not available on some iPad models).

If you choose to take a new picture, the camera preview appears (1).

Tap (2) to select the front facing or rear camera as required.

Tap (3) when ready to take a photo.

If you selected the option to import an image from the Photo Album, a popover (1) appears from which you can select an iPad album and subsequently, a photo.

After selecting a photo (either from the Album or from the Camera), you will be prompted to open the selected photo either to fit the screen (2) or as a resizable image (3).

Select "Fit Screen" (2) if you wish to crop the photo and only use a section of the photo in your screen image. The photo will be initially be pasted to fit the screen and you can make a selection in SELECT MODE and crop the area you require.

Select "Re-sizeable image" (3) if you wish to re-size, rotate and/or re-position the entire photo without cropping. The photo is then placed in the SELECT BOX which you can adjust.

Select "Fit Screen" (3) for this example as we are going to "crop" from it.

The photo will be pasted to fit the screen (1).

To crop the photo, tap the SELECT (2) button first and adjust the SELECT BOX (3) to fit over the area to be cropped.

Tap the CROP button (4).

You will be prompted (5) whether to "CROP AND CLEAR SCREEN" or "CROP AND RESTORE". Select CROP AND CLEAR SCREEN for this example.

The screen is cleared, and a copy of the selected area is placed in the SELECT BOX (1) which you can re-size, rotate and/or re-position.

Tap the PASTE button (2) to paste the contents of the SELECT BOX back to the screen when ready.

REMEMBER TO TAP THE PASTE BUTTON!!

After pasting an image (1) you may want to add more images alongside, for example to create a collage.

Tap the IMAGES button (2) again to select another photo.

Select the "Fit screen" option as before.

The selected image (1) will be pasted on the the screen. Note that the original image will be pasted over and hidden.

To crop the photo, tap the SELECT button first and select the area of the photo to be cropped (2). Then tap the CROP button (3).

This time select the "RESTORE" option when prompted, otherwise the screen would be cleared.

The screen image is restored with the image that was first pasted (1) and the cropped selection from the second image is placed in the SELECT BOX (2), where it can be scaled, rotated or moved.

Finally, when in position remember to paste the contents of the SELECT BOX back to the screen by tapping the PASTE button (1).

Repeat the process to add more images to build up the collage.

c. Export the image in the SELECT BOX - email, icon library and Facebook

In SELECT MODE, the SELECT BOX (1) is used to contain an image which may be re-sized, rotated and pasted onto the screen image.

Additionally, you can tap the EXPORT button (2) in the SELECT MODE toolbar to export the image in the SELECT BOX.

This is similar the to the EXPORT button on the MAIN TOOLBAR which is used to export the entire screen image rather than just the image in the SELECT BOX.

The EXPORT options are:

Send to printer (3). A wireless Airprint compatible printer is required.

Email (4). You can email the image in the SELECT BOX as a jpg or png file. The png file format preserves transparency in the image. Note that the iPad email app is launched and your iPad email account has to be correctly set up.

Save as icon (5). Select this option to save the image in the SELECT BOX as an icon which you can re-use. The icon appears under the "MyIcons category" when you tap the ICON button in the MAIN TOOLBAR.

Save to Photo Album (6). This option returns the image in the SELECT BOX to the Photo Album and places it in the camera roll. Useful for cropping images in the Photo Album without overwriting the original image.

Upload to FACEBOOK (7). Sends the image in the SELECT BOX to your FACEBOOK wall. A Facebook account is required with appropriate permissions granted. Connect to Facebook first (10).

Open In.... (8). Enables interaction with other suitable apps installed on your iPad. You can select either .jpg, .png or .pdf formats and a list of apps which support Apple's Document Interaction protocol will appear. The image in the SELECT BOX will then be opened in the selected app accordingly.

Send to CLIPBOARD (9). Sends the image in the SELECT BOX to the CLIPBOARD. You can then paste the image in other apps (for example Pages).

If you choose to export and save the SELECT BOX image as an icon, the popover (1) appears where you can verify the icon image (2) and type in an icon id (3).

Tap (4) to save to the icon library. The icon will appear in the "My Icons" category when you tap the ICONS button on the main toolbar (5).

Tap the ICONS button (5) on the main toolbar also to manage and delete icons which are no longer required.
